Iran Mountaineering Federation has invited two French instructors
to hold sport climbing instruction course for men and women in Iran
in February 2006. A course for men will be held in Hamedan from
February 18 and another course for women will be held in Arak at
the same time.

Iran Mountaineering Federation (IMF) organized its big annual winter
ascent in Alvand massif in Zagros range on January 25 to 27, 2006.
This big ascent was the fifth one that was organizing to celebrate
Islamic Revolution during last five years. More than 700 men and
women mountaineers were participated in the event, where 10 peaks
of the massif were selected as their destination. Though because
of blizzard and snowstorm, it was just Alvand peak (3420 m) that
was ascended. The other groups had to come back due to bad weather
condition.
It is worth to mention that in the opening of this ascent, which
was held in Ibn-e-Sina stadium, a short movie from Iran-Japan Manaslu
Expedition in 1977 as the first Iranian Expedition to an 8000er
was shown. Also 10 mountaineers and veteran Instructors were praised
for their permanent activity in Iranian mountaineering community.

More than 280 people participated in winter course of Mountain
Medicine in Mirza Koochak Khan camp in Ramsar on January 18 to 20,
2006.
Physicians, Members of Rescue teams, Mountaineering Instructors
and enthusiastic people were among participants in two days theoretical
session in Ramsar, when in another session in Javaherdeh region,
all medical doctors and heads of medical committee of mountaineering
associations were trained practically.

Few dozens of mountaineers participated in a group ascent on mount
Shahalborz (4250m) in the Alborz range , which was organized by
Nazarabad Mountaineering Council on January 10 and 11 ,2006 .
Forty-nine mountaineers from all over the country started their
attempt from Hasanjoon village in Taleghan in January 10 , though
a non-stop snowfall and bad weather condition forced them back before
summiting.
It is worth to mention that this ascent was organized to honor old
and veteran mountaineers.

A group of six climbers of Hemmat Shemiran mountaineering group
of Tehran ascended on the northern rocky flank of mount Damavand
on January 4 to 7, 2006. In a report by public relation of their
club, they say:
“…In the morning a gentle wind was blowing,
while in mid-day it went on strongly. Two members of the team were
battling the rocky flank which was supposed never ever has seen
a winter trial already. Though they passed the flank up to around
5600m, but the horrible wind pushed them down some 100m down the
summit. …”
The mentioned rocky flank is situated in the west of the normal
north route close to Dobisel glacier.

Alpine Club of Iran is going to hold second biennial Festival of
Mountaineering Accounts in Tehran on June 2006.
The festival will be hold in three categories of Written
Accounts, Live Shows (slide show, multimedia presentation,
…) and Films ,When the winners will
be awarded at the end of festival.
In a call for entries, Alpine Club of Iran has invited all interested
ones to send their films or written accounts to the festival’s
secretariat at : P.O Box 19395-5511, Apt. 12, No 590, close
to Lalehzar ave., Enqelab st., Tehran .
- Two copies of written accounts, movies or a description of live
shows should be sent to festival’s secretariat before April
15, 2006.
- Movies should be sent in VHS or VCD format.
- Photos should be sent in JPEG format.
- Written accounts should be sent in MS-word format.
- Entries from previous festival (June 2004) are not accepted.
Alpine Club of Iran
December, 2005
Alpine Club of Iran held the Navigation course Using GPS on December
19 to 23 in Tehran.
Forty-eight participants took part in 3 theoretical classes at Daneshjoo
culture house in Tehran on December 19 to 21, as well as field training
in slopes of mount Tochal north of Tehran on December 22 and 23.
Kaveh Kashefi, surveyor and member of board of Alpine Club of Iran
taught the course.
