Meeting of Iranian mountaineers on International Mountain Day

Alpine Club of Iran and Ararat sport-culture club celebrated International Mountain Day in Tehran on December 11, 2006.
A few hundred people participated in a meeting at the auditorium of Ararat club in Tehran to celebrate IMD. The gathering opened with reading FAO’s public service announcement note about managing mountain biodiversity, while Dr Kahram an environmental scientist, Abbas Mohammadi the head of Alpine Club’s board of directors, Abbas Jafari journalist and well known Iranian Alpinist and Soren Sepanian from Ararat club presented their talks afterward. Then, it was Davood Mohammadi turn to read a message for Iranian mountain lovers from K.Gilanpour –the first Iranian mountaineering instructor- , who is living abroad now. At the end, Ebrahim Babaei proposed the idea of establishing veteran mountaineer organization.
Showing the first documentary movie in the history of Iranian mountaineering, exhibiting digital mountain photos and clips and performing music were the other parts of the meeting.

Alpine Club of Iran elected its new Board of Directors

New Board of Directors was elected in the general assembly of Alpine Club of Iran in Tehran on Thursday November 23, 2006.
The session opened by the report of Kiomars Babazadeh ex-president of Alpine Club of Iran, while the other members of the board presented their report of 2004-2006 afterwards.
At the end of the session, the biennial election of Board of Directors was held. Among 12 nominees for the board and 3 nominees as inspector, Abbas Mohammadi, Esmaeil Rezaei, MohammadAli Roudi, Mahmoud Bahadori, Shakoor Lotfi, Afsar Shandiz and Parastoo Abrishami were elected as members of the Board and Kiomars Babazadeh was elected as the inspector for 2006-2008 periods. At the same time, Mohsen Foghani and Soren Sepanian were elected as substitute members for the board and Kaveh Kashefi as substitute for inspector.
Forming in 1998, Alpine Club of Iran was established as a NGO in 2000 to represent Iranian Mountaineering community.

Russian cavers in Damavand club

Yury Evdokimov leader of an expedition of 22 cavers and speleologists, who are in Iran to visit Parau cave and Sarab cave, as well as two other members of the expedition participated in weekly meeting of Damavand ski and mountaineering club in Tehran on Monday November 6, 2006. Evdokimov and Alex Serov presented a report about their activities in Parau cave, sarab cave and Namakdan cave in Iran during 2005 and 2006 and explained an introductory overview of six deep caves in Abkhazia including Voronija cave (deepest cave in the world) and history of exploration in these caves.
Visiting Iran for the third time in last few years, Evdokimov emphasizes to the high potential for caving in Iran and shows his interest to be more familiar with Iranian speleologists and says: “…Though Iranian cavers are strong, but they should be familiar with new techniques like SRT (Single Rope Technique) to be joined to international expeditions and work on deep caves”.
It is worth to mention that English Simon Brooks and Iranian-German Sharareh Ghazi are accompanying this expedition of Russian-Ukrainian cavers who have visited Parau cave in last week. They are going to head to Sarab cave in Hamedan before leaving Iran.

Deadly accident in Oshtorankouh

Hussain Bajelani (18) fell into his death in Mt. Sanboran in Oshtorankouh region on Saturday November 4, 2006.
According to secretary of Arak Mountaineers Club, Hussain who was ascending Sanboran peak with another guy had reported of bad weather of the region in a call to his family, few hours before accident. They were coming down in a ridge, when he fell down from a rocky ridge behind the shelter, Mahmoud Raufi said. A rescue and search group from Red Crescent Organization evacuated the body of Hussain.
It is one of the few deadly accidents in Oshtorankouh in last two years.

“Blue Mountains” win two prizes in the 2nd Biennial Festival of Mountaineering Accounts

During the closing session of the 2nd Biennial Festival of Mountaineering Accounts, winner accounts were announced and prized.
Blue Mountain show In the festival, which was held by Alpine Club of Iran, thirty two accounts in three categories of “Written Account”, “Live Presentation” and “Film” were nominated by jury members to be presented in festival on November 2 and 3, 2006. At the closing session, the jury announced the winner accounts as the following.
“Passing throughout the Lut desert, the land of Kalouts” written by Faramarz Parsi won the first prize as the best “Written Account”, where “Alamkouh wall, Hamedan route” by Afshin Yousefi took diploma and was praised.
In “Live Presentation” category, Kazem Faridian took the first prize for presenting “Abseiling down in Shevi Canyon” and Afshin Yousefi won another diploma for his account of climbing Maku’s overhang , “A challenge to the sky”.
Reza Nezamdoost, who had taken “Best Documentary Movie” prize of International Festival of Sport Movies in Tehran in July 2006 for his film “Blue Mountain”, won “Best Movie” prize of this festival with the same documentary movie that is the story of an Iranian expedition to Mt Lenin in Kyrgyzstan. In this category, Yousef Soorinia took diploma for his amateur movie, “Visiting Mian-Se-Pal cave”.
The Jury Finally, “Blue Mountain” caught the prize of “Best Account by Audiences”, too.
Though, the jury did not nominate any account to be prized for “Mountain Environment Protection”, but Abbas Mohammadi ,the head of Mountain Watchdog committee of Alpine Club of Iran was praised for his persistent activities to protect mountain environment in last few years.
It is worh to mention that more than 700 people partcipated in this festival, which held in auditorium of National Olympic Committee of Iran in Enqelab Sport Complex in Tehran.

Alpine Club of Iran to Hold 2nd Biennial Festival of Mountaineering Accounts

poster of festival Second Festival of Mountaineering Accounts will be held at the auditorium of National Olympic Committee of Iran (NOCIR) in Tehran on November 2 and 3.
Kaveh Kashefi, Secretary of the festival announced: “… More than 100 written accounts, films and live presentations were received by the festival’s secretariat, where members of the jury selected 23 written accounts, 5 films and 5 presentations to be shown during the festival’s days”. Kashefi recalled of Davood Mohammadifar, Dr. Hassan Salehi Moghadam, Ahmad Vokhshoori, Abdolreza Faridnia, Hadi Foghani, Hussain Nazar and Sahand Aghdaei as the members of jury and added: “We were going to hold the festival in June 2006, but we decided to postpone deadline to receive more accounts.”
“…The festival will be opened on Thursday November 2, 2006 at 14:00 and will be continued for 2 days from 14:00 to 20:00. At the closing, the best written account, best film, best live presentation, best account from the view of audiences and the best account for showing environmental activities in mountains will be prized” he added. The festival will be opened on November 2, at 14:00 in the Auditorium of NOCIR at Enqelab sport complex in Niayesh highway in Tehran and is open to public.

IMF Organizes an Expedition of Mountaineering Instructors to Mt Ararat

Iran Mountaineering Federation is going to organize an expedition composed of Mountaineering Instructors to Mt Ararat in Turkey this autumn. A group of forty eight instructors had participated in a preparatory ascent in Middle Alborz during October 26 and 27, where expedition’s members will be selected out of this group. It was the second preparatory plan before leaving toward Ararat.

Trip reports of alpine solo ascent to peak Korjenevskoy and Iranian Mustag Ata Expedition

Monthly meeting of Apline Club of Iran held in Shafagh culture house on September 27. During the session, Mohsen Nouri presented a report on unsuccessful ascent of Iranian Mustag Ata expedition-2006 and criticized fake news about expedition´s success to achieve the summit of Mustag Ata (7546m).
Then Hussain Nazar presented his account and slide show on his alpine solo ascent of peak Korjenevskoy (7105m) in Pamir in August.
At the end of the session, secretary of Alpine Club of Iran announced that 2nd festival of Mountaineering Accounts and "Women and Mountain" congress will be held by Alpine Club of Iran in November.
