Accident in Alamkouh region: Deadly climb of German Flank

Mehdi Azizi and Alireza Soleimani two members of Arash Mountaineering Club of Tehran died during winter climb of peak Alamkouh via German flank.
Mehdi and Alireza with Reza Abbasion and Parviz Komasi, two members of Songhor Mountaineering Council, left Mountaineering Federation’s lodge in Roudbarak toward the region on Monday January 8. Six days later, Mehdi, Alireza and Reza, who had spent last two nights in a hard condition on the flank, decided to abseil down the west cwm. Descending to the west cwm, Mehdi fell into his death! Few hours later, Alireza died the same night in a bivouac. It seems that exhaustion and hypothermia has caused Alireza’s death. Reza, the third guy in the group, came back alone to Alamchal camp via west cwm the day after. Coming back to Sarchal hut, he called Tehran and informed his friends from the accident. Reza and Parviz are entrapped in Sarchal hut now, where Reza is suffering from frostbite.

 Alireza Soleimani

Kiomars Babazadeh, who is leading rescue team in Roudbarak, told IMZ in a call: "It has been snowing in the region whole the day. The risk of avalanche is serious, so we cannot access two climbers via land. We are trying to arrange an air rescue". The first group of rescuers will go up via Sarchal route tomorrow, according to Babazadeh report. "Though Reza is suffering from frostbite, the situation of climbers is not still critical and we have to be aware of avalanche risk for rescue team", he added.
Babazadeh believes that there is no chance to bring the bodies out of the region before June.
