
The 97th meeting of Alpine Club of Iran will held on March 15 at shahriyaran-e-Javan culture hall in Tehran downtown.
This is the last meeting of the solar year 1389, so that the president will talk about the task undertaken by ACI’s during the current year. Afterwards, the meeting will go on with a few speeches on the theme of March 14, the international day of action for rivers. Meanwhile, specialists will discuss environmental impacts of dam construction projects on mountains and surrounding areas.

The 4th Mountain Logs and Films biennial’s jury finished judging over 76 entries after 2 months.
Erfan fekri, secretary of this festival said: "We received 28 written accounts with 48 films till submission deadline on January 5. Then, jury members presided by Shakour Lotfi, member of alpine club of Iran divided into two groups to separately judge the entries. Now, top films and written accounts are picked up, which will be announced in an official ceremony very soon."
Hadi Foqani, Abbas Mohammadi, Mohammad Haj Abolfath, Afshin Yousefi were logs jury, while Hamid Soheili, Pedram Akbari, Azizollah Haji Mashhadi and Hojatollah Forouqi judged received films.

On Monday, March 7th, the general assembly of Tehran’s indoor climbing league was held to elect board of directors.
According to Kaveh Kashefi, head of the Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Council of Tehran, 35 people attended this event as representatives of climbing clubs over the province. Details of league’s statute that has been approved by official sport authorities recently were presented, before the election started.
At the end of election, Kaveh, Mahmoud Iravani, Naser Sarvar-Masoule, Rahman Keshvari and Bouyeh Sadat-Nia were elected as main members and Mahmoud Hasan-Zadeh and Ali Akbar-Zadeh as alternate members.
The Board is responsible for executing the first provincial climbing league over Iran in coming few months.

Sixty five years from the formation of Iran’s Speleologists council in 1946, an association was established with 106 members specially dedicated to caving and speleology.
According to ICSA’s official website, cavers and speleologists from all over the country including veterans such as Changiz Sheikhli, Ahmad Marefat, Taher Zahedi, Heshmat Heidarian, Mohammad Nouri, Hamid Sedighian and Kiomars Babazadeh celebrated the birth of ICSA on March 4. This gathering was at the same time its first general assembly of Iran’s Cavers and Speleologists Association, where board of directors should be elected. Therefore an election started and resulted in the following outcomes:

Blowing dust and sand that usually causes emergency weather condition in south west side of Iran, canceled women’s speed competition at the 11th Fajr Climbing Cup.
The competition has been planned for Friday, March 4 outdoors, when dust storm swept through Ahwaz and there was no way except calling it off. Therefore, women’s final team result accomplished based on lead and bouldering competitions. Hereby, Zanjan took the first reward and followed respectively with Hamedan and Tehran among 17 teams.

Just two days after winning bouldering comp, Zanjan star climber, Elnaz Rekabi placed 1st among eight finalists of women’s lead contest this evening, March 3.
"Elnaz finished semi-final round, while she was the only one managed a top-out. The route was set on 5.12ab. Beside her, Farnaz Esmaeel-Zadeh, Sima Soltani, Fatemeh Solaimani, Negar Varshowci, Fatemeh Meqdadi, Maryam Ali-Khani and La’ya Sediq-Banay entered the final round," competition manager stated.
According to Mansoure Gorji, at the end of final attempt, Elnaz was again on top like 9th and 10th cups. She fell from the penultimate hold on a route with 5.12bc grade and followed by Fatemeh Solaimani and Fatemeh Meqdadi.

Women’s lead competition at the 11th Fajr Climbing Cup kicked off this morning in Takhti sport complex of Ahwaz city.
"Fifty eight competitors from 17 provinces took part in women’s lead qualification, which was held on two routes rated 5.10d and 5.11b. It was a hot contest, where 11 women managed top-out both qualifiers finally and entered semi-final along with 15 other competitors," reported competition manager, Mansoure Gorji.

The famous Zanjani climber, Elnaz Rekabi topped women’s bouldering contest at the 11th Fajr Climbing Cup.
Semi-Final round started this morning with 20 qualified women attempting on 4 problems in the difficulty range of 6b to 6c+. At the end Elnaz Rekabi and Farnaz Esmaeel-Zadeh from Zanjan, Negar Vashowchi and Fatemeh Solaimani from Hamedan together with Tehran representatives, Nasrin Abdolrahimi and Sara Manafi entered the final stage.
Final competition kicked off at 2:00 P.M. with four new problems whose difficulty grade varied between 6c+ and 7a. Elnaz Rekabi gained more points for his superior performance and defended her championship in the 10th cup. she followed with Farnaz and Negar.

Men’s competitions at 11th Fajr Climbing Cup finished yesterday, February 25 at Takhti gym in Ahwaz, where Khorasan Razavi took champion’s place in final team ranking.
"Men’s speed started on Friday in the morning with 26 climbers. They speeded up a high wall, where Hamid-Reza Touzandejani from Khorasan Razavi won the race. Afterwards, Mohsen Mohammad-Nejad from Qazvin, who shone in recently held Asian continental competition and worldcup placed 2nd and his townsman Mohsen Shafie followed him," told competition’s manager.
Therefore based on total points attained, Khorasan Razavi topped final team result while Khuzestan and Zanjan provinces took next two places.

Davoud Rekabi topped men’s lead podium at the 11th Fajr Climbing Cup among 8 strong finalists all vying for first position.
"February 24, in the morning lead’s semi-final round held on a route as difficult as 5.13a. At last, Davoud Rekabi, Qolam-Ali Barat-Zadeh, Ahmad-Reza Solgi, Khosrow Hashem-Zadeh, Reza Kolasangian, Mohammad-Ali Aqa-Davoudi, Amin Abbasi and Mojtaba Khodaei were the top finishers and entered final round," competition manager went on, "A few hours later, the finalist started to lead up a harder route with difficulty grade of 5.13b. Qolam-Ali Barat-Zadeh won men’s bouldering competition at the 11th Fajr Climbing Cup in Ahwaz, Khuzestan.
"Eighty climbers belonged to 20 teams attended men’s bouldering. The contest started yesterday, February 21 and went on for three rounds. Q.Ali B.Zadeh, H.Reza T.Jani, Arash Doustarian, H. Reza Qanimati, Reza K.Sangian and Sasan Azizi entered the finalists round with four difficult problems. At the end, it was Qolam-Ali, who defended his title as the winner of bouldering comps at 10th Fajr climbing cup. Approximately five hundred mountaineers from 14 provinces took part in an expedition on Mt. Binalud held in honor of 32nd anniversary of Islamic revolution.
This program had been organized by Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Council of Khorasan. On February 16th, climbers moved to "Ferizi" village in "Chenaran" city, fifty kilometers NW of Mashad. They divided into 4 smaller groups, one of which was comprised completely of women mountaineers from host province.
"Summit push started on Friday, February 19th from 4 different routes. The weather was getting upset toward the afternoon. Two teams succeeded to top main summit at 3220 m and fore-summit at 3100, while the others called back to respect safety codes," said Husain Amani, council’s head.

At the end of preparatory and selection camps started one month ago, 9 women beside 13 men were picked as representatives of Tehran province in 11th Fajr Climbing Cup.
Women’s team includes Nasrin Abdolrahimi, Masoumeh Rajabali, Sara Manafi, Zahra Rezaei, Setareh Shakiba, Solmaz Eshqi, Nasrin Nasiri, Malihe Nikzad, and La’ya Seddiq. Most of them will take part in lead and bouldering comps while in speed competition just Nasrin Abdolrahimi takes part.

An elementary training course starts on Friday, February 18th at "Ab-Ali" ski resort to instruct more than 66 people ABC of ski mountaineering.
This course is executed by ski mountaineering committee at Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Federation of Iran in four 4-day rounds. It will provide attendees with instructions on off-piste skiing, skinning techniques, avalanche and snow safety and also a short introduction to ski mountaineering competitions.

The 96th monthly meeting of Alpine Club of Iran will be on Wednesday, February 16th at Shahriyaran-e-Javan hall in Tehran downtown.
This meeting will start at 5:00 P.M. with mountaineering world news, which will be given by Erfan Fekri, the head of public relations committee at ACI. Afterwards, Farnoush Reisi is going to give a detailed reportage about the 4th Ice Climbing Festival of Iran that occurred two weeks ago in Roudbar-e-Qasran region.

Safe Mountaineering Commission will hold backcountry avalanche skills course for climbers and skiers over February 23rd-25th.
"We focus on developing the skills, knowledge and techniques for backcountry users to help them prepare for safe travel in avalanche prone terrain. This course includes theoretical and practical trainings," said commission secretary, Abdollah Ashtari.
Safe Mountaineering Commission established last November under the authority of Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Council of Tehran province.This is the first training course on the theme of Mountain Hazards that SMC holds.

Two expeditions comprised of men and women mountaineers of Zanjan province will travel to Nepal during next March and April in order to climb Mt. Manaslu and Merapeak.
"Men’s team is passing last steps of preparation for Manaslu (8165 m). We are 7 people picked up after 10 selection camps among 40 entrants and probably will increase to nine before departure to Nepal next March," reported Mohammad-Hasan Najjarian, key member of this expedition with five 8000er summits in his bag.
Husain Moqadam, Ali Bayat-Manesh, Masoud Bayat-Manesh, Mojtaba Meqdadi, Mehdi Soltani and Masoud Hamidi together with Mohammad-Hasan are members of Manalsu expedition.
About women’s expedition; they will be 7 people leave Iran for an attempt on MeraPeak (6476 m) in Nepalese Himalaya next April. In order to form this expedition, 20 women have entered the selection process since last week.

Heavy snowing and cold weather in Roudbar-e-Qasran canceled the large scale ascent that has been planned in honor of 2010 avalanche victims toward 8 summits in the region.
Approximately 300 were preparing to climb 8 summits of Roudbar-e-Qasran in honor of 8 avalanche victims of last February in the region. The opening ceremony executed at a large Hall in Fasham district on February 2nd. Like last few days, the weather was still snowing.
On Thursday morning, participants were gathered just in two teams to have better monitoring on safety issues. They set off toward two easier summits and after a few hours walking in deep snow, the program called off by local guides to avoid getting avalanched.

The 4th Ice Climbing Festival of Iran kicked off at Roudbar-e-Qasran region in central part of Alborz range on Wednesday, February 2nd.
Held by Alpine Club of Iran annually since 2008, this event is a good opportunity for people interested in climbing icefalls and particularly for those wanting to enter the world of this sport.
"With temperature at minus 15, I think this is the time for ice climbing. At least 40 attendees from all over the country are here at Hamaloun valley attempting to climb icefalls with wide difficulty range. They have been divided into 4 groups with Hasan Javaherpour, Afshin Yousefi, Mohammad Sabouri and Masoud Hamidi as their guides. Moreover, with the lighting system set up against ice falls, climbing is possible even at nights," told Farnoosh Reisi, the secretary of festival.

Men’s lead competition at Fajr Ice Climbing Championship finished on January 28, when Mohammad Sabouri took first place among 30 climbers from 5 provinces.
Thirty men entered the contest from Alborz, East Azerbaijan, Hamedan, Isfahan and Tehran. Qualification round kicked off on a long ice route at Hamaloun ice climbing school, where Masoud Zeynali from Tehran managed a top. Afterwards, the second round started with 18 competitors. This time no one managed a top outs and top eight climbers validated for the final round.
The final round held on Friday on a difficult mixed route, where climbers should begin using dry tooling techniques that had been isolated from the ice portion with a hanged out trunk. Eventually after a breathtaking attempt, Mohammad Sabouri placed 1st because of his superior performance, while second and third places went to Masoud Zeynali and Omid Amohammadi.

Bahman Azimi together with M.Javad Mohsen-Pour, members of environment friends clubs of Shahid Rajaee University will start a biking trip from north of Lut desert to its south tomorrow, January 25.
They left Tehran today in the evening to reach Birjand, the start point of their trip in southern Khorasan province. With the slogan "Prevent Forests from Turning into Deserts", these two bikers intend to join the International Year of Forests, 2011 which has been declared by United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests. Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Council of Tehran is going to hold training camps to encourage mountaineering clubs over the province to independently enter world of high altitude mountains.
"MSCCT aims to take advantage of country’s experienced alpinists and maybe a few European instructors to train members of Tehran’ mountaineering clubs principles of high altitude mountaineering over Himalaya, Karakorum and Pamir. This program will provide a trustful basis for clubs to form their own expeditions on high altitude summits. The Preparatory & Selection camps to pick top men and women sport climbers of Tehran province for the 11th Fajr Championship kicked off on Thursday, January 13.

MSCCT hereby called all mountaineering clubs over the province to send their delegations (men and women) to this outdoor gathering. Ice Climbing Festival, Ecrins 2011 affected by condition of icefalls that was getting dangerous due to the warming of weather over Ecrins national park.
"In a four-day period from January 13th, we just climbed 6 pitches on an icefall in "Ciak" valley on the second day. The ice was such dangerous that French guides prevented climbers from ascending just a meter during last two days. Therefore, we moved to Chamonix aiming to summit Mont Blanc, where we were advised to forget about it. Now we are thinking about an ascent on Mt. Aiguille du Midi, but it depends on the meeting we have with local guides," told Mohammad Hajabolfath, member of Iranian team.

The 95th monthly meeting of Alpine Club of Iran will kick off at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19th at Shahriyaran-e-Javan hall in Tehran.
According to ACI, after a short review on the latest events of alpinism all around the world, Abbas Sabetian, ACI’s President will give an introduction of "Wiki-Pakoob" website, which has been developed by himself in June, 2008. It is a free encyclopedia about Wilderness & Alpinism using wiki software, where everyone is free to write his viewpoints and experiences covering website’s principle theme. Approximately 630 articles have already been published on Wiki-Pakoob just in Farsi.
In last part of this meeting, attendees will be presented with a reporting by Hamid Zarrin and Hamid Safar-Nejad. They are two climbers from Khorasan province, who managed to summit Amadablam last November. That ascent was a tribute to their late friend, Abbas Jafari who died in a kayaking accident in Nepal, August 2009.

A team comprised of 7 ice climbers from Alpine Club of Iran will leave Iran toward France on January 11th, to take part in the 21st International Ice Climbing Festival at Ecrins national park.
Iranian has used to participate in Ecrins Festival since 2007, when a series of mutual cooperation initiated between ACI and GHM. The coming festival will kick off on January 13.

Negar Varshowchi from Hamedan province won the open rock climbing competition at Davoudi gym of Tehran on January 7.
Kadijeh Jahan-Bakhsh, the head judge of this competition said: "Thirty four athletes from 8 provinces entered the contest, which had been divided into four categories of Lead, Bouldering, Speed and Dyno. No one managed a top on lead route graded 5.11d, although in bouldering competition, Nasrin Abdolrahimi from Tehran did all four problems that were rated between 5.10ab and 5.12a, in her first attempt and Negar, the winner of contest did 3 of them in her first attempt."
The final ranking was extracted according to the total points gotten by each competitor during those four sections. Thus Nasrin Abdolrahimi from Tehran and Leyla lekzaei from Hormozgan province respectively followed Negar Varshowchi.
Also, 6 entrants were competing in kid age group. Among them, Negin Afshar, Farnoush Davousi-Pour, and Helia Matlabi rewarded as top climbers.

Less than one month remaining to the end of climbers list submission deadline of the 11th Fajr Championship, Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Council of Tehran is still insists on holding a preparatory & selection camp among top climbers of the province.
"After a meeting we had together with Tehran’s climbing champions one month ago, they requested a preparatory camp to get qualified for the 11th Fajr Championship that will be held next February. According to MSCFI, those who want to attend this course should be skillful in winter mountaineering and be good skiers as well.

Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Council of Tehran is going to hold a preparatory camp to pick up best rock climbers of Tehran province for the 11th Fajr climbing championship.
"Ten women and sixteen men are invited to this camp. They are top climbers of bouldering and lead competitions at Tehran climbing championship, which was held last June. The 5th round of "Notification & Prevention of Mountain Hazards (NPMH)" plan kicks off today, December 23rd over most-visited routes of Tochal Massif, although the southern slopes of the mountain is completely dry.
One hundred and twenty well trained people from 9 mountaineering clubs in Tehran will act as NPMH representatives during the 5th round. They give services in 8 portable stations over 4 trekking routes of Mt. Tochal just on Thursdays and Fridays (Iranian weekend) as well as country’s official holidays till May, 2011. Simultaneously, a group of 20 people will monitor working stations and progress of activities.
"Hazards will be notified through face to face communications and distributing training brochures to trekkers. They are subjected to most important issues in winter climbing such as avalanche, hypothermia, meteorology, while a few other matters like principles of trekking and protection of mountain environment are necessary to review," said NPMH managers, Kaveh Kashefi.
NPMH is done voluntarily by outdoor sports clubs under the supervision of Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Council of Tehran to reduce the amount of disasters during cold seasons on Tochal Massif. Tehran Disaster Mitigation Management Organization occasionally gives financial aids to this plan.
