Iran Mountaineering Federation introduced five men and five women
as the members of Iranian 2005 Everest Expedition, where there are
four other names as the reserved ones in the list.
All members of the final preliminary test have been divided in two
expeditions. According to public relation of Iran Mountaineering
Federation, the first Expedition, comprised of five men and five
women as well as the expedition leader, a cameraman and a medical
doctor will be going to Everest in pre-monsoon. Also there are four
others (two men and two women) as the reserved members in the list.
In fact, the attendance of the reserved members is under the shadow
of financial problems, according to IMF.

The second expedition will be going to Kazakhstan in Summer 2005,
IMF public relation has added. Four men and seven women have been
announced as the members of the expedition, though the name of
the peak in Kazakhstan has not mentioned.

Fifth stage of preparatory test of women climbers and sixth stage
of test of men climbers held in Lavasanat region and Touchal Mountain
near Tehran on February 23 to 26.
Fourteen men and fourteen women were participated in this test,
which was held after a big ascent in Dena region in Zagros range
during the first week of February.
It’s worth mentioning that the final list of Iranian 2005
Expedition has not still released.

Tenth annual climbing competition was held in Damghan on February
24 and 25, where 166 men climbers and 83 women climbers were participated.
The competition was organized just in difficulty in comparison of
last years’ both in difficulty and speed.
Bahare Moradi from Hamedan won the competition of women, while Elnaz
Rekabi and Nadia Talebian ranked second and third.
In the men’s competition, Amir Pirveisi who was sponsored
by National Iranian Oil Company won the first prize. Mohammad Jafari
and Hamidreza Toozandejani stood afterward.

According to Physical Education Organization of Iran, IMF’s
presidential election, which was going to be held on February 16,
postponed.
IMF public relation announced that this election had been postponed
one more time on December 22. Since then, Physical Education Organization
has released no list of candidates.
Its worth to mention that the exact date of this election will be
announced later, according to PEO.

It was January 14, the starting point of new era in ice climbing
history of Iranian ladies, when the young Safoora Darsanj from Isfahan
won the first ice climbing competition of Iranian ladies.
Tehran Mountaineering Assembly, with cooperation of Maygoon ice
climbing school held this competition over Hamaloon ice wall on
January 14. Thirteen ice climbers from Tehran and Isfahan Provinces
participated in the first round where five out of them entered to
final round. Safoora Darsanj from Isfahan finally won the competition
and Mahdiyeh Kiarostami from Maygoon and Nahid Naseri from Tehran
stood afterward. Parisa Faghih-Nobari was praised for great show
in both rounds also.
It’s worth mentioning that Maygoon ice climbing school has
been established in January 2004 after formation of Hamaloon ice
wall, 40 kilometers north of Tehran in Middle Alborz.

Hamaloon ice wall to invite ice climbers, December 2003
Participating in the third preparatory camp to review ice skills
over Abnik icefall in Rudbar-e-qasran area near Tehran, fourteen
women climbers were selected to take part in fourth stage of elementary
test for arranging Iranian Women Expedition to Mount Everest.
These women climbers were among the team of 19 who passed the second
step on Mount Sarakchal in Middle Alborz. The third preparatory
camp held in January 6-7, one week after the second test. According
to public relation of Iran Mountaineering Federation, the next stage
will be held on January 26-28 in Hamedan province.

fourth test of this team will be held near Tehran on January 20-21.

Physical Education Organization of Iran has announced that IMF’s
presidential election will be held on February 16 during annual
general meeting of Iran Mountaineering Federation. In fact, this
election will be held after a long suspension.
Because of compressed time of presidential election of many federations,
IMF’s election has been postponed like some of the other federation’s,
announced by IMF public relation.
All candidates who are interested and qualified to mentioned post
has invited for nomination up to January 18.

31 out of 69 women climbers from all over the country, who participated
in the first preparatory test of Mount Everest in Alamkuh area,
were selected to take part in the second test.
According to IMF public relation, physical condition, stamina and
strength of participants has been tested as well as their familiarity
with equipment and camping in altitudes there in Anehsara and Sangesarak
peaks of Alamkuh area on December 16 and 17.
The second preparatory test is going to be held in Middle Alborz
on December 29 and 30 where 16 members of Iranian Men national team
are selected to participate in this camp too.
It’s worth mentioning, more than 80 women climbers have sumitted
Mount Everest after 1975 ascent of Japanese woman climber Junko
Tabei as the first woman on the top of the world. Iranians are gearing
up to push the first Iranian Muslim woman to the top of Mount Everest
in 2005.
