Iran Mountain Zone (IMZ) is the first Encyclopedia
of Iran's Mountains, created as an online database available on
World Wide Web. The Web site has gone online since the summer
of 2002 in English and Persian (Farsi).
Iran Mountain Zone is an independent organization and does not
have any affiliation to any club, institution, or organization.
The contents of this encyclopedia are collected by a group of
volunteers from Iran's mountaineering community, and also researchers
who work in the field of Iran's mountains.
IMZ as a comprehensive project was initiated
in the International Year of Mountains. The major goals of this
project are as follows:
- The designation of year 2002 as the International
Year of Mountains by the United Nations shows the crucial
role of mountainous regions in the environment around the globe.
Most of the associations and organizations (governmental and
non-governmental) that work on issues related to mountains around
the world have praised and supported UN's positive initiative.
By creating and maintaining Iran’s Mountains Encyclopedia,
IMZ has become one of such organizations that support this global
move.
- There is a huge body of knowledge about Iran's mountains and
mountaineering experience that need to be documented and organized
properly. Unfortunately, little effort has been done on this
front so far. IMZ is an attempt to improve the existing situation
in this regard.
- There is no concentration of the works done by researchers
who work on issues related to Iran's mountains. IMZ aims at
collecting all of such research materials in a single central
database.
- IMZ is created to enrich the public knowledge and to create
an environment-aware culture with the ultimate goal of preventing
further global environmental destructions.
- IMZ is designed to be an online database in order to be publicly
available for millions of Internet users around the world.
Mountainous Regions of Iran:
Information on Iran's mountain ranges, caves, glaciers, lakes,
and wildlife.
A database of Iran's Peaks: A complete set of
information about major peaks in Iran, including geographical
position, photos, mountaineering trails, shelters and camps, etc.
Trip Reports: A database of reports of various
exploratory trips including climbing summits and cliffs, exploring
caves, trekking trails in the mountain forests, etc.
Articles: A large collection of articles and
research papers on Iran's mountains.
Publications Guide: A guide to all books, magazines,
maps, and other materials published by various organizations.
Maps: A collection of online maps with useful
information about each region.
Photo Archive: Thousands of artistic and informative
photos taken by a large group of Iran's mountain-lovers.
Clubs and Organizations: A database of all clubs,
associations, and organizations who operate in the related fields
to Iran's mountains.
Gears and Equipments Guide: A database of Iranian
companies that manufacture mountaineering, climbing, and trekking
gears.
Online Tour Guide: Introducing hundreds of tours
and trips highly suggested by experienced guides, along with a
set of useful information about each trip, including the maps,
timing, required gears, etc.
Event Calendar: Covering all major events related
to Iran’s mountains taking place in each year. Such events
include talks, seminars, forums, galleries, competitions, etc.
Forecast Information: IMZ will mediate forecast
information available from various sources and make it available
in order to help safer trips in Iran's mountains.
News: It is an active, up-to-date news center
on all activities and events related to Iran's mountains.
